Shinichi earned his BS in biology at University of Toyama in 2010. As an undergraduate, he worked on the developmental studies of mandible formation during soldier caste differentiation of termites in the laboratory of Kiyoto Maekawa. Then, he obtained a PhD from The University of Tokyo, working in the laboratory of Haruhiko Fujiwara in 2015. In the Fujiwara Lab, he studied the molecular genetics of larval colar patterns in silkworm mutants. After his PhD, he worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow on the molecular genetic basis of Batesian mimicry in the swallowtail butterfly, Papilio polytes. He joined the Shigenobu Lab in October 2020 and is studying the biology of aphid-Buchnera symbiosis through the development of transgenic tools. Outside of research, he enjoys working out at the gym and watching bodybuilding contests.
